Pumpkin Patch

One Saturday in October we visited a The Big Orange Pumpkin Farm in Celina, TX.

With our admission we each got a cup of food for the animals. Grace fed the sheep but then decided that wasn't her thing and so she let Olivia have the rest of the food.

 

Olivia loved feeding the goats!

Grace was tired of feeding the animals and wanted to check out the pumpkins and hay bales.

 She sat so still and smiled big for the camera!

Then Olivia joined us but she didn't want to sit and take her picture. She wanted to climb on the hay and the fence.

We let the girls pick out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.

Grace decided she would rather leave hers for another little girl or boy to take home. But she did want to go for a hay ride!

Halloween 2012

We had a great Halloween!

We started the day off by heading to the community center for our neighborhood playgroup Fall Fest. 

The girls had lots of fun jumping in the bounce house and painting pumpkins.

 

 That evening the girls put on their costumes and went trick or treating in our neighborhood. Almost everyone was passing out candy!

Olivia wasn't a fan of her costume at first but she quickly forgot about it once she started getting candy.

Dustin took the girls around our side of the neighborhood while I stayed home to pass out candy. We had quite a few kids come by and I think we will have more next year since there won't be construction on our block.

Pumpkin Patch

Before we left for vacation we took a little trip to a pumpkin patch. I found a deal on groupon for 2 admissions for $10. After my Mom bought her tickets I got a $10 credit and got ours with that. So we all go into the pumpkin patch for $10 total! Last year we went to a pumpkin patch ran by the same people just in a different city. We wanted to try the other one this year. My Mom and Brandy and Brilyn came along with us. Afterwards we went and ate at a yummy Mexican restaurant that we have been wanting to try for quite a while.

Trick or Treat!

This morning we carved our albino pumpkin. I have never seen a WHITE pumpkin before! Let me just say this thing was much harder to carve than your normal orange pumpkin. We had planned on carving "Trick or Treat" on the front but once we got started we figured out it was not going to work. The pumpkin is about 2 inches thick and the little pieces of the letters were just not coming out. So we did our best to turn it into a face.

We took Grace on-base to trick or treat this evening. First stop was a friends house. We were a little early but we wanted to make sure they didn't run out of candy before Grace stopped by!

She kept pointing to where the candy was and wanting more!

Then we went to another neighborhood for more trick or treating. It rained the entire time! We decided that after visiting a friends house we would put the camera away for the night since we were all getting wet and it was dark. Grace got a bag of candy and she ate a twizzler on the way home.

When we got home we took some candy to our neighbors. We bought a couple bags to hand out but not a single person stopped by. I guess the rain kept everyone away.

This was our third Halloween being married and we have not ever had a little kid come to our door to trick or treat. The first year we lived in an apartment complex in El Paso. Last year we were in Hawaii. We thought we might get a few kids come by after we got home tonight but the neighbors told us it has been a quiet night here. I guess maybe next year?

Fall?

It seems everyone is talking about fall. And here there is nothing that feels like fall. The weather is hot and muggy. We can still wear shorts flip flops. There is no need for a jacket or sweater even at night. I have been wearing my jeans because it makes it feel more like fall around here but that just results in being even hotter.

We did, however, find a pumpkin patch (well, the closest thing we can get over here - a bin of pumpkins in the commissary). And we found the perfect one for Grace! I can't wait until we are able to take Grace to a big field of pumpkins. I think we will end up buying whichever one she chooses to make up for this year and next only having a commissary bought pumpkin.

Maybe I should go ahead and put up the rest of my fall decor. By the time the weather starts to feel like fall we may be ready to put up our Christmas tree.
