There is so much to write about that I am not sure where to begin... should I start with the best stuff? Or about the ship? I think I will start at the beginning so I am less likely to leave something out!
We left Okinawa on the 19th and flew to Taipei. We had an 11 hour layover so we had checked on any visa requirements and found that we would be all set to leave the airport. Getting some fresh air (even if it is polluted city air) is always nice on long flights. We went through customs and immagration then headed to the info counter. This airport loves to give info! Everywhere we went people we bombarding us trying to help. They wanted to get us a taxi, a bus, tell us which way to go. They were very pushy!! We ended up hiring a car to take us around the city for 5 hours and we got to see quite a bit. We saw three things--the Imperial Palace Museum, the Chiang Kai-Shek memorial, and Taipei 101, the world's second tallest building (the one in Dubai surpassed it about a week before we were there). The Imperial Palace was ok--not very exciting, but still interesting since it contained artifacts that were actually kept in the imperial palaces of all of the Chinese Dynasties--Shang, Ming, Zhou, etc. Next, we went to Taipei 101, took the elevator to the viewing floor, and had gelatos in the cafe up there--Grace loves the Chocolate! The building was really impressive. Finally, we drove to the Chiang Kai-Shek memorial, the man who founded Nationalist China, and the first leader of Taiwan. The architecture was amazing--kind of looks like Shuri Castle on Okinawa. We ended the day with a long layover at the airport and boarded the plane at 11 pm for an overnight flight. Grace slept so peacefully on the flight!
