Our latest Adventures

Last weekend we went to Naha with Chelsea and Terre to see Shuri Castle. If you have myspace or facebook there are pictures in an album on Heather's profile. After touring the castle we went to Kukosai Street which is basically the New York 5th Ave. of Naha. Dustin bought some local honey and we tried some locally grown pineapple! The pineapple here is delicious and it will probably become a staple in our house.

We have been decorating!! We got tired of the yucky government tile floors and went out and bought a couple huge area rugs. They just delivered them today and we already love them!! We got a brown rug that covers the entire living room and a dark blue one for our bedroom. We also got a few carpet runners and Dustin has been doing a wonderful job attaching them to the stairs. Our feet will be greatful! We went from a little 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment to having a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house so we have been getting things for the additional bathrooms. Heather just found a really cute rug for the 1/2bath today at a Japanese store, thank goodness for electronic cash registers that show you the amount you owe!

House and Cars!

Well, we chose our house today. We got to choose between 3 choices and the one we chose will be renovated in about 6 months so we will be moving out. Hopefully to something better or some sweet off-base house with a nice ocean view! The 2 choices we declined for pretty obvious reasons, one would flood during a Typhoon and the other didn't have central air which meant the government would control the temperature. So we will be living at on Patterson Street on Kadena.

We also bought 2 cars and got our drivers license's. We will have a white Nissan Silvia (which is called a 240SX in the US) for Dustin and a gold Mitsubishi Dingo for Heather. They were adding a muuffler to the Silvia (guys and their sports cars!) and then cleaning them both and doing all of the inspections so we should be able to pick at least one of them up tomorrow. They have the strangest cars here!

We are in Okinawa and we are LOVING it!!! We got some cool phones today, went to the beach, ate at a popular restraunt, and just enjoyed seeing everything. The flights out here were not bad at all. We flew out of Seattle on Thursday morning and when we got to mainland Japan it was Friday morning at 11. Then we had a delay because they had a broken coffee pot on the plane but we finally made it to Kadena AB, Okinawa around 5pm Friday. That was seriously the longest day of my life! I had talked to a friend here and she waited on us at the airport, took us to the hotel and then to Dustin's headquarters so he could sign-in, then back to our hotel. We had a fire alarm go off just about the time we were going to bed, that was pretty interesting. Turns out somebody burnt popcorn which set off the fire alarm. The lights went off and there was a beeping sound and a recording that said "The fire alarm has been activated. Please wait for further instructions" This next week we are going to a housing brief, taking the drivers test, and buying a car! We heard the housing wait is only a week or maybe less so we are hoping we can get in a house sometime this week too!

We are homeless! (sort of)

Dustin is an official graduate of OBC. With that came moving out of our apartment and leaving El Paso. Yeah, it was a little sad, and for now, no more authentic mexican food:( We got back to Lawton last night and we are staying with Grandma Darlene and Papa Bill. Then it's on to Missouri to the McGriff house for the weekend, then we're flying out of OKC for Seattle and then Japan on the 12th of March. This is crazy---all our stuff is on its way to Japan, and we had to vacate our poor home---CRAZY!! Heather almost cried when she saw someone else in our old place:) Till next time---Konichiwa!!
