Souvenirs?

We only have a week left to get ready for vacation because we are leaving a week from tomorrow!! It has been a long time since we have been on vacation and we have never taken a vacation this long before. This will also be Grace's very first vacation! I know we went back to the states to visit family last March but I don't count that as a vacation.

Since this is Grace's first vacation we are trying to come up with something that we can get for her on every single vacation we ever go on to collect. Something that she can have later down the road to remind her of all the fun places we have been. We have tried to pick up a few postcards everywhere we go since we have been married. But I want something different for Grace. Something more special than a postcard. We are thinking about a Christmas ornament, but what if we can't find a Christmas ornament?

So my question for you: Do you have anything you collect from places you visit?

We usually always get postcards and when we were in the US I would try to get a magnet of each place. But other than that I don't really look for certain things. Maybe you could find teddybears in each place you go?

If you can't find a Christmas ornament you could probably find something that you could still attach a string to and hang on a Christmas tree. A small stuffed animal can be used as a Christmas ornament. Or - a hot wheels car. We have a hot wheels car ornament that someone glued a string onto. It's a little red wagon.

Christmas ornaments are a great idea...or, if not that, perhaps snow globes or some other mantle ornament?

I don't really have any must-have souvenirs. A christmas ornament is a good idea. And like Patty said, even if something isn't technically an ornament you could turn almost anything into one. You could also do a special photo such as her in a certain pose in front of a sign or landmark that represents the location.

One of the only things I do for every vacation is I make a photo book at Snapfish (or another photo place). It can take 10 minutes to make if you let Snapfish place the photos for you and it can be as short or as long as you want. It's not as creative as scrapbooking, but it's quicker and cheaper, and we have nice photobooks of all our vacations.

AS for the PJs...well, they were 0-6 months, so weirdly enough the body fit him really well. Only the legs were too short, so it looked like he was wearing shorts.

Your dad collected banners, Deb - dolls - Roger - coins, Grandma Darlene - spoons; Granny Dee thimbles. I collected dainty cups. Some of those could be made into ornaments. Your family sent GeoBear with various people to get autographs. It's great you are planning ahead.

I would always try to get some type of coin.(ex. the pennys that are flat that have the state name on them or something similar) I also would get keychains and take the ring off and put string or ribbon and make a christmas ornament.

How about a snow globe?!? :) I'm sure you can find snow globes in Australia and New Zealand ....

We collect a picture frame (that has our destination written on it) and put our pic in it. I have some from several different continents. And a magnet, but that's boring.
